Joint Entrance Exam Mains (JEE Main) is one of the entrance exams of engineering which is on the top in the list

of National level entrance exams for engineering. JEE (Main) is formerly known as the All India Engineering

Entrance Examination (AIEEE). This exam is organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA) In India.This exam

is meant for admission to various undergraduate engineering and architecture courses in institutes accepting

the scores of JEE (Main). It offers admissions into the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs),

National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and various Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). Initially,

this exam was conducted once in a year in the first week of April on both paper and electronic mode by (CBSE)

Central Board of Secondary Education. CBSE had been conducting this exam until 2018. But from 2019 it is

conducted twice a year by the National Testing Agency (NTA) only in online mode. National Testing Agency will

be responsible for 2019 for issuing information bulletin, inviting online applications, organizing entrance tests,

providing answer keys and declaration of results.

The JEE (Main) data is sent by NTA to concerned State Authority and Seat Allocation Board (SAB) for the

admission process. This exam was conducted in offline mode (pen and paper mode) till 2010 but as per the

orders of the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2011, CBSE started conducting Paper 1 in

Computer-Based mode for the first one lakh candidates who opted to for the same while rest of the students

took the examination in pen and paper mode. Paper 2 is still conducted on offline mode (pen and paper mode).

Aspirants are actively appearing for this exam as it is the ladder to the top engineering colleges of India. The

number of an applicant of JEE Main has varied over the years. The number of applicants in 2012 was 12.20 lakh

which rose to 13.56 lakh in 2014. In 2018 the number of applicants appeared for the JEE Main online exam was

2.16 lakhs while around 10.43 lakh aspirants appeared for the offline exam. Candidates can appear for the JEE

Advanced only after clearing their JEE (Main) exam. There are many colleges who take admissions on the basis

of the scores of the JEE (Main) for admission in their B.Tech/B.Arch programs
